Camos Tap Talks #1: Karita-san
The first Camos Tap Talks event was held today. The guest speaker was Karita-san, an assistant professor in our lab. His research focuses on biological growth and proliferation, using systems such as bacteria to study these processes experimentally.
When I invited him, I told him, “Feel free to just use some slides you already have!” But to my surprise, he connected his talk to top-fermented and bottom-fermented beer, making it perfectly suited to the venue. The event was a huge success.

Since Karita-san was the speaker, I had no concerns at all about the atmosphere or quality of the event itself. What I was worried about, however, was whether we could attract enough people. We had promoted the event on Twitter and Instagram, but it was hard to predict how things would turn out.
As it happened, the venue was already full when the event started, with around fifteen people. That said, more than half of the audience consisted of customers who happened to be at the taproom by chance, so we were probably quite lucky this time. Hopefully we can gradually build awareness and attract more people in the future. I'd also like to create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable dropping in, even if they know nothing about the event beforehand.
In any case, this first event could not have gone better. I hope Camos will gradually become a place where people can casually stop by and find themselves listening to a fascinating research talk.
